About the project

Agriculture forms a significant part of the economy of Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. The parties involved in the Project from Zemgale (Latvia), Panevežys (Lithuania), Minsk and Grodno regions (Belarus) are closely connected with agriculture, they have extensive experience in the production of agricultural products and, following their traditions, it has become one of the main sectors for economic growth in these areas.

The 2014-2020 European Neighbourhood Instrument Cross-border Cooperation Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus Programme fosters synergistic partnership of the Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian organisations with the financial support of the European Union. The strategic goal of the Programme is to strengthen relations, raise capacities and share experience among people and organisations through implementation of joined actions, which focus on increasing the overall quality of life in the border regions. The EU funding to the Programme is 74 million EUR.

NAME OF THE PROJECT:
“Green Agriculture without Borders” /ENI-LLB-1-117/

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION TIME:
01.02.2019 – 31.01.2021 (24 months)

Most farmers have knowledge of product production, but lack the know-how and skills on how to sell their produce successfully. The project will promote and support young entrepreneurs and help them develop the skills on green farming.

Nowadays, more and more people are starting to think about how to live healthier, and in an environmentally friendlier manner. As a result, the demand for green products has increased, thus encouraging local farmers and food producers to think more about engaging in production of green products.

Local farmers within the framework of the cross-border cooperation will be given an opportunity to participate in several joint cross-border activities such as creative workshops for product development and packaging, promotion of their products through a common IT platform, and participation in cross-border events and fairs.

PROJECT TASKS

The enhancement of business opportunities for existing and potential green farmers; the opening of new product markets and promotion of employment.

Development of a competitive product in green farming sectors such as production of dairy, meat, vegetable and beekeeping products, and stimulation of new cross-border markets.

Promotion of cross-border cooperation to acquire knowledge on regulations referring to green farming; and on the basis of demand, to understand potential buyers and increase sales to co-operation countries.

PROJECT GOAL

Improve business opportunities and cooperation in the Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian cross-border region, implement measures that support development and innovations of green agriculture, and promote employment opportunities. Increase the level of employment in the border region, encourage the willingness and ability of local farmers or food producers to establish new green farming enterprises.

PROJECT BENEFITS
